Still Thoughts by Dharma Master Cheng Yen

之前打扫被开放而被宿舍自治会接管的佛学会会所时,无意在看到Still Thoughts By Dharma Master Cheng Yen,即师公上人所写的法,取名为静思语。不过,怎么是佛教慈济功德会马六甲分会?毕竟找到的地方属雪隆区。后来想一想,也许历代干部给我们“后代”的祝福吧!毕竟雪隆的慈济源起自马六甲。

Still Thoughts by Dharma Master Cheng Yen
  1. The sunshine is bright, the parent's love is great;
    a good person is generous, a bad one is querulous.
  2. Say good works, have good thoughts, do good deeds, and help make a world of difference.
  3. To forgive others is to be good to oneself.
  4. Success is the proliferation of your good points;
    failure is the accumulation of your weak points.
  5. Don't underestimate on yourself, because everyone as boundless potential.
  6. Palm facing down is to help people, palm facing up is to ask for help;
    helping brings happiness while begging brings pain.
  7. The more you do, the more you gain;
    the less you do, the more you lose.
  8. Be willing to do, be happy to bear.
  9. Always bear in mind the following virtues: understanding, accommodation, gratitude, contentment, and counting your blessings.
  10. To do whatever should be done is wisdom;
    to do whatever should not be done is foolishness.
  11. One who is ill-tempered and often criticizes others is not a good person, even if he / she has a kind heart.
  12. Only when knowledge is truly absorbed can it become your own wisdom.
  13. Love is not asking from others, but is giving of yourself.
  14. One's greatest enemy is none other than himself.
  15. Let us compete on who is more compassionate, not who is more feared.
  16. One who idles from day to day is a consumer of life;
    one who is active and useful is a creator of life.
  17. Be mindful. Don't worry or fret.
  18. A person who always makes excuses for himself can never improve.
  19. One who constantly looks down on others reveals his lack of moral cultivation.
  20. When vegetables are planted in the field, weeds do not grow;
    when a person has a kind heart, he does not do evil.
  21. The greater the effort you put into your work, the greater the experience you gain.
  22. Better to have a generous heart than a spacious room.
  23. Getting angry is actually punishing yourself with others' faults.
  24. A person's happiness stems not from how much he owns but from how little he complains.
  25. When one has weathered through all the suffering, fortune may ensue;
    when one has enjoyed all the blessings, misfortune may turn up.
  26. When sitting quietly, contemplate your mistakes;
    when chatting, don't criticize others.
  27. Being rich does not bring happiness;
    one who has a clean conscience has the most peace of mind.
  28. When you want to criticize others, be sure to think first whether you are prefect.
  29. If you do not do little chores, no feat can be accomplished.
  30. The greatest success in life is to rise up from failure.
  31. Good words are like lotus flowers blooming out from your mouth;
    bad words are like poisonous snakes hissing out from your lips.
  32. There are two things that cannot wait: fulfilling filial piety and doing good deeds.
  33. Morality is a guiding light for cultivating yourself, not a whip for slashing others.
  34. To appreciate others is to respect yourself.
  35. Good hearts always beget good days.
  36. Even though reason is on your side, you must be forgiving;
    even though justice is on your side, you must be soft-spoken.
  37. A drop of kindness should be returned with a flood of kindness.
  38. Recognize, appreciate and repay your parent's love.
  39. A kind word is like perfume: if you spray it on others, a couple of drops will stay on you.
  40. We should do environmental protection work not only for our society, but also for our hearts.
  41. Many drops of water make a river, many grains of rice make a bushel;
    don't disparage your own wisdom, and don't think of any good deed as too small to do.
  42. Rather than a lot of words, say a few words;
    rather than a few words, say good words.
  43. Don't be afraid of making errors, but of not correcting them. It is not difficult to correct errors.
  44. A person's heart is like a field;
    if no good seeds are sown, nothing good will grow.
  45. Only wisdom can distinguish good from bad and evil from right;
    only humility can build a happy life.
  46. A gentleman strives after ideals, but a sly man works for his own ends.
  47. In life, not all balls are good ones;
    only a seasoned slugger can make a hit every time.
  48. The difficulty and struggle in human affairs are among life's challenges.
  49. Count me in if you are doing good deeds;
    count me out if you are doing evil.
  50. If you want to have love, you must pay attention to your own heart first.
  51. If you can yield to others and love people a bit more, you will lend a very happy life.
  52. One who has a heart of love has blessing;
    one who can eliminate worry has wisdom.
  53. Disputes should be regarded as education, praises as warnings.
  54. An idle man has no pleasure;
    a busy man has no disputes.
  55. A person's eyes, always looking at things in front of him, can only see defects of others, not of himself.
  56. With confidence, perseverance and courage, there is nothing in the universe that you cannot accomplish.
  57. To change oneself is self-salvation;
    to influence others is to save people.
  58. Giving vent to anger is temporary madness.
  59. Forget merits but not mistakes;
    forget complaints but not favours.
  60. Intentions beget blessings, vows beget strengths;
    if you cultvate the field of good fortune, you will be blessed.
  61. The surest way to harm yourself if to give vent to irrational anger.
  62. If you can make good use of time, you will surely go where you want to go.
  63. Only when a person repents of his sins will he be purified and be relieved from anxiety.
  64. Do now whatever you are capable of doing. Don't just wait until you're ready, because your intentions will come to nothing.
  65. The most beautiful things in the sky are the stars;
    the most beautiful thing in life is affection.
  66. A gentleman is like water, which takes the shape of the container into which it flows, he is comfortable in any situation.
  67. The fuller the rice tassels are, the lower they bow, the more a person accomplishes, the more humble he should become.
  68. Stopping half way is more difficult than going on to the destination.
  69. To cultivate morality, you must cultivate your mind on all occasions, train your mind in all situations and elevate your mind in all places.
  70. Don't try to do whatever you please, but try to educate yourself as you please.
  71. In good times, you should bear in mind the suffering experienced in hard times;
    on good days, you should save up for bad days.
  72. This world will end, but your vows are endless. It is easy to make vows but difficult to keep them.
  73. Good deeds must be encouraged and disputes must be set aside. To help others succeed is to make yourself succeed.
  74. Being capable but not doing anything is not as good as not beng capable but striving to do something.
  75. You must love yourself before you can love all beings in the universe.
  76. Be careful in dealing with others, but don't be narrow-minded.
  77. Don't be afraid of too much work, but of meddling in others' business.
  78. You do not have a claim on your life, but the right to use it.
  79. Lies are like flowers in full bloom;
    they look beautiful but have short lives.
  80. If you look at a chipped cup from another angle, it is still round.
  81. Our vows should be great, but resolves should be firm, our temperament should be tender, and our mind should be prudent.
  82. If you have an aspiration in your heart but don't put it into practice, it is like tilling a field without sowing any seed;
    it's useless.
  83. If you are compassionate, you will have no enemies;
    if you are wise, you will have no worries.
  84. Giving alms is just like sowing seed;
    the seeds will bud when nourished with a loving heart.
  85. A gentleman keeps a constant resolve, but a sly man keeps making resolutions.
  86. We should appreciate, cherish and cultivate blessings.
  87. Only when you can do whatever is difficult to do, give whatever is difficult to give, and accomplish whatever is difficult to accomplish, can you elevate your character.
  88. Only when you respect yourself can you have the courage to humble yourself.

  89. Our hearts have three poisons: greed, anger, and ignorance. In giving we heal greed, with compassion we appease anger, and with wisdom we overcome ignorance.
  90. Love should transcend race and nationality;
    all forms of life should be respected and cared for.
  91. Only with the existence of loving and harmonious families can there be a decent society. Only with a decent society can there be a peaceful nation.
  92. Do not fear of reaching a distant goal, but of failing to move forward.
  93. Repentance is a confession of the soul, and it is also a major cleanup of spiritual pollution.
  94. Giving is not the sole right of the rich but of anyone with a sincere and loving heart.
  95. Sincerity in dealing with others and virtue in serving people are the best way to manage people.
  96. Some say, "a good heart is good enough." However, a good intention not put into action will not achieve any good deed.
  97. The length of one's lifetime is measured by what one has achieved in that lifetime. Therefore, compete with time. Do not let it slip by unproductively.
  98. With great kindness, one has no regrets;
    with great compassion, one has no resentments;
    with great joy, one has no sorrows;
    with great generosity, one demands nothing in return.
  99. We must make vows that are beneficial to all living beings, and we must always and everywhere put them into action.
  100. With love in your heart, you will be loved by all.
  101. Life is impermanent. The society needs you, so act quickly. And while you are still able to walk today, quickly take the first step.
  102. In dealing with matters, there are three things that we should not rely upon. First, do not rely on power. Second, do not rely on social status. Third, do not rely on wealth.
  103. Most of the disasters and calamities in this world are caused by the people who have complete bodies and limbs, but incomplete minds and spirits.
  104. Every day in my life is a blank sheet of paper. Every person and every event are all vividly written essays.
  105. Life is happiest when you are needed by others and can do things for others.
  106. Persistence breaks through all difficulties and obstacles, like dripping water that can wear away a stone.
  107. Having no conflicts does not mean being unconcerned. It means being in harmony and loving others, and being able to work with one heart and one mind.
  108. The three "No's". In this world, there is no one I would not love, no one I would not trust, and no one I would not forgive.
另外在那个盒子中,也看到一个写着静思语的书签。上面写着一个人的快乐,不是因为他拥有得多,而是因为他计较得少

最后,让我更加肯定是历代慈青或者慈济家人留下的,因为在绑着中国结的结缘品中,其中一面写着慈济,而另一面写着静思语,静思语包括了
  • 不要小看自己,因为人有无限可能
  • 看淡自己是般苦,看重自己是执著
  • 要提起就完全提起,要放下就全心放下
  • 人最难看见的就是自己
  • 能施与的人,比首施的人更有福
